The ACS Peru International Chemical Sciences Chapter hosted delegations from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, and Uruguay for the regional Festival Training Institute. Dr. Isaac Céspedes Camacho (Tecnológico de Costa Rica, first on the left, back row) and I have assembled a team to organize the first ACS Chemistry Festival in Costa Rica, for which we are submitting a grant proposal to the ACS. Dr. Céspedes Camacho is faculty adviser to the ACS International Student Chapter at the Tecnológico.
The ACS International Student Chapter at the University of Costa Rica was constituted in July, 2017 with Profs. José Leitón Chacón & Santiago Sandi-Urena as co-faculty advisers. Since then, chapter members have received several awards to attend international chemistry meetings (ACS, ABCChem) and to support their outreach program.
This past February, the Chapter co-hosted the visit of ACS on Campus to the UCR.
The family bingo is becoming a tradition for our Chapter. Besides an opportunity to raise travel funds, the bingo creates a fun environment for family members, students and faculty to spend time together. Prizes are donated by individuals and companies and businesses that support the Chapter’s causes.
Even better when the bingo happens around the holidays!
Eleven undergraduates and five faculty attended the ACS Spring National Meeting in Orlando, April 2019, and presented five talks and several posters.
